This seems like a good time to reminisce on what was one of the biggest years of my existence. 2017 was technically the first year I decided to only do photography as a career. I've been shooting for over a decade and nearly 5 years "legitimately" but last year was the moment I said "yo nick. This is dope. Let's only do this".
It was definitely spooky. I had a baby, wife, dog, house and a love of baked food to support. I do, however, try not to take life too seriously and like to jump into things without overthinking them. So with that, I started the year off sitting at my computer, wondering how to convince more people that I should shoot the biggest day of their lives. That's when that annoying "Bwong" email sound started going off and people were like "dawg, shoot our wedding?"
It was nuts and as much as I had hoped this would all work out, a part of me was saying "Haha no way this works out, idiot!". I can't thank all the truly great people who have had me capture their wedding, family, engagement or whatever else there was. You rule so, so much! I also owe A LOT, LIKE, A TON to my killer wife whom when I mentioned this whole career decision to said "Sounds great!"
Anyways, on to this New Year's Eve wedding! Brittany and Greg are the BEST. I met Greg forever ago when we both worked at value village and was so jazzed that him and Brittany wanted to me to shoot their day.
We did a first look as well as the bulk of the portraits at Shawn and Eds brewery in Dundas. I really loved shooting there. The light mixed with the somewhat industrial vibe was perfect. They also did a Champagne pop underneath some giant icicles outside which ended up being awesome considering it was -30! Did I mention it was -30? It was -30. These guys were warriors the entire day and didn't even flinch when I asked them to go outside. The reception was equally unreal. They had a donut bar dudes...a donut bar. I passed away. They also set up this giant lit up XO sign for the dance area which looked so dope! On top of that, Brittany also surprised Greg with a dress change for the dance portion of the evening. The attention to detail was spot on the entire day.
All in all this was one of my favourite weddings of all time. Brittany and Greg are some of the best people on earth and I'm so stoked for them!
